Biographical or historical data
James Moore Brown was born 13 September 1799 in Brownsburg, Rockbridge County, Virginia, to Reverend Samuel Brown and Mary Moore Brown. He was educated at Washington College and was licensed by Lexington Presbytery in 1824. From 1826 to 1835 he served as pastor for the churches of Gerrardstown, Falling Waters, and Tuscarora in Berkely County, West Virginia, and restored the Back Creek Church. He married Mary Ann Bell, daughter of John Bell and Elizabeth Sherrard Bell, in Winchester on 26 September 1826. In 1837 he became the pastor of the Church of Kanawha, in Charlestown and Kanawha Salines, West Virginia. He died 7 June 1862 at Lewisburg, West Virginia.
