Summary
Diary, 1900, of Theron H. Brown of Richmond, Virginia. Includes daily handwritten notations of his acitivites, as well as those of his wife Fannie, his two children Emma and Theron, Jr., and his brother and sister-in-law Howard and Effie Bassett. Topics covered include the beginning of the new century, weather, health, religious life, and social activities, such as attendance at vaudeville plays, shopping, car rides, going to baseball games, an ocean voyage to Boston, and his wife and children's vacation in the Catskills. Brown also writes about local, national, and international events, including birthdays and deaths of notable figures, anniversaries of important events, and politics, including results of the 1900 Presidential election. He took a great interest in the Boer War in South Africa, and many notations include mention of it. There is a great deal of information concerning his work as a clerk for the Life Insurance Company of Virginia, including the financial position of the company and its weekly profits, and the activities of its president G.A. Walker. Also included in the daily entries are philosophical writings or poetry. There is a list of household and personal accounts in the entry for February 1

Biographical or historical data
Theron Hart Brown was born in New York on 3 October 1852. He was a resident of Richmond, Virginia, and was a clerk for the Life Insurance Company of Virginia, and later was employed with the Virginia Electric and Power Company. He married Fannie Thornton on 15 March 1887. They had two children. He died in Richmond on 11 March 1933 and is buried in Hollywood Cemetery.
