Biographical or historical data
Although the author is unknown, it is most likely that he served with the 1st Louisiana Cavalry regiment led by Col. John S. Scott, who left Kingston (La.) on 13 August, captured London, Kentucky on 17 August 1862, and defeated two Federal regiments near Richmond at Big Hill, Kentucky, 23 August 1862. This brigade served under Kirby Smith (1824-1893), commander of the Department of East Tennessee.
