  • Includes two minute books. The first covers the period from June 1846 to December 1866. Financial matters are noted when it was decided to construct a new church and change the name from Pungo to Oak Grove. Membership lists appear on pages 94, 126, 164, and 222-226, at the end of the book, inverted and reversed. All of the lists include dates earlier than the dates of the entry. The roll of male members was consistently kept as records of attendance at church conferences, and were tabulated annually from 1846 to 1864
  • The second minute book covers the period from May 1883 to December 1911. They include financial reports. Membership lists appear on pages iv, 316 (1900-1911), and 331 (1892-1900). Male and female rolls were listed separately, the roll of male members kept as a tabulated attendance record

Biographical or historical data
Said to be one of the oldest Baptist churches in Virginia, Pungo Church was originally a member of Kehukee Association and later became a part of Portsmouth Association. In May 1855, the members voted to change the name of the church to Oak Grove.
