Enos Furman Hargrave Jr. was born on 26 September 1921 in hospital at Kecoughtan, Elizabeth City County, Virginia, the first child of Enos F. and Katharine Eutoca Chappell Hargrave of Newport News. He married Helen Osterhaus at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Richmond, Virginia, on 2 December 1944. Later that month Hargrave left for military service overseas in the United States Army. Before and after the war, Hargrave principally worked as a data and systems analyst but occasionally ventured into other work (i. e. life insurance). He lived most of his life in the Newport News area but currently resides in Richmond, Virginia.
