Biographical or historical data
Rufus Brittain was born in Easton, Pennsylvania on 19 June 1822. He later moved to Virginia, and resided in Dinwiddie County before moving to Tazewell County in 1850, where he taught school. During the Civil War, he was mustered into the 29th Virginia Infantry. Following the war, he returned to Tazewell, and was elected county treasurer. He died in Tazewell County on 11 April 1899 and is buried in the Peery family cemetery.
