Henry Edward Watkins was born 19 February 1782 in Prince Edward County, Virginia, to Francis Watkins (1745-1826) and Agnes Woodson Watkins (1748-1820). He served as captain of the Prince Edward County militia cavalry. Watkins married Agnes Woodson Venable (1786-1868) 30 September 1811 and they had 11 children. Watkins died 6 August 1856 in Prince Edward County and was buried at his home "Poplar Hill."
