Biographical or historical data
Frank Shreckhise Driver was born 16 June 1902 in Mount Sidney, Augusta County, Virginia, the son of William Edgar and Bessie Viola Shreckhise Driver. He married Jean Dearing Poindexter in Lynchburg, Virginia, on 20 April 1946. Frank Driver graduated from Bridgewater College in June 1924 and taught thereafter at Weyers Cave High School. He later was a farmer and a cashier at the Farmers and Merchants Bank in Staunton and at Rockingham National Bank. During World War II, Driver served overseas in the United States Counter Intelligence Corps. His civic duties included service as president and director of the National Counter Intelligence Corps Association, president of the Weyers Cave Fire Company, president of the Virginia Council on Social Welfare, member of the Electoral College in 1952 and 1956, and a leader in the Republican Party. He died from a heart attack as he disembarked from a Chesapeake and Ohio train in Staunton, Virginia on 11 October 1965. He had no children and was buried at the Church of the Pleasant Valley.
