Letter, 12 October 1797, from James Gordon (ca. 1759-1799) of Culpeper County, Virginia to Edward Herndon (ca. 1729-1799) of Spotsylvania County, Virginia, concerning the surveying of a tract of land in Spotsylvania County which Gordon purchased from General Henry Lee (1756-1818). The deed for this property was recorded in Fredericksburg on 11 October 1798, and can be found in District Court Deed Book C, pp. 193-195

Biographical or historical data
James Gordon was born circa 1759 in Orange County, Virginia. He was the son of John Gordon and Lucy Churchill. On 13 August 1777, he married Elizabeth Gordon. He died in 1799.
