Biographical or historical data
Edmund Wilcox Hubard was born 6 August 1853 in Buckingham County, Virginia, to Edmund Wilcox Hubard (1806-1878) and Sarah A. Epps Hubard. He attended public and private schools, then graduated from the University of Virginia in 1876. A lawyer, Hubard practiced in Buckingham County and in Richmond, Virginia. He served as Commonwealth's Attorney for Buckingham County for forty years. Hubard ran for the state senate in 1883, but lost in a contest decided in the general assembly. He then won a special election to represent Buckingham and Cumberland Counties in the House of Delegates in 1884. Hubard again ran for state senate, winning the seat he had lost before, and represented Buckingham, Appomattox, and Fluvanna Counties in the state senate from 1887 to 1890. In 1899 he again represented Buckingham and Cumberland Counties in the House of Delegates and represented those two counties in the Virginia state constitutional convention of 1901-1902. Hubard married first Mary E. May (1866-1910) of Buckingham County, 27 January 1897, and they had one son. He married second Margaret Leake (1873-1937) of Richmond, and they had no children. Hubard died in Richmond 26 July 1936 and was buried in Hollywood Cemetery.
