Summary
Typescript of the diary, 1846-1847, of William Morton (1813-1895) of Charlotte County, Virginia, describing a trip from Charlotte County, to Havana, Cuba. The first part of his diary describes his trip from Farmville to Florida, and the second describes his trip from New Orleans, Louisiana, to Havana. Transcript includes letter, 28 January 1893, from J. W. P. Jenks (1819-1894) wintering in Micco, Florida, to Morton. A postscript by his son, William Scott Morton (1859-1948), notes that portions of the diary detailing his trip from Florida to New Orleans and from Havana back home are missing

Biographical or historical data
William Morton was born 21 September 1813 in Charlotte County, Virginia, to John A. Morton (1777-1817) and Elizabeth Morton (1778-1836). Morton was a successful and prosperous He married Margaret Elizabeth Watkins 5 January 1853, and they had nine children. Morton died in Charlotte County 26 February 1895.
