Ledger, 1816-1817, principally containing the tax account balances of citizens in Chesterfield County and Petersburg, Virginia, recorded by James Howlett (sheriff?). There are also the estate records, 1818-1829, of Joseph Burfoot (d. 1818) including a property inventory containing a list of slave names and values and the estate accounts kept by James C. Howlett, executor. A list of the names of slaves rented and hired out by Elizabeth and Mary A. Gibbs are also contained herein. Also in this volume are a number of recipes likely entered in the years following Howlett's death by an unknown individual. At the back of the volume are accounts, 1861, for the sale of butter to individuals by an undetermined person
