Court records, 1799-1806, concerning the case of Francis Ford vs. Thomas Gardner et. al. which originated in the Louisa County, Virginia, Chancery Court in 1799 as Thomas Gardner, et. al., vs. Francis Ford and concerning the validity of the last will and testament of Mary Gardner of Louisa County. The Louisa County Chancery Court declared the will null and void, and Ford appealed to the Superior Court of Chancery in Richmond, Virginia, which upheld the decision of the lower court. Ford appealed to the Supreme Court of Appeals which found no error in the decree of the Superior Court, and let it stand. Record is a transcript of the suit made by Joseph Allen (1796-1862), clerk of the Supreme Court of Appeals 18 June 1842, and includes the bill, answer, depositions, and decree of the Louisa County Chancery Court, as well as the rulings of the Superior Court of Chancery and the Supreme Court of Appeals.
