Biographical or historical data
William Glover Stanard was born in Richmond, Virginia, in 1858. He received his education at the College of William and Mary and Richmond College between 1876 and 1880. Stanard contributed articles of historical and genealogical interest to various journals and was a reporter for the RICHMOND WHIG. In 1898, Stanard was elected corresponding secretary of the Virginia Historical Society and under his administration thirty-five journals of the VIRGINIA MAGAZINE OF HISTORY AND BIOGRAPHY were published. He married Mary Mann Page Newton, author and authority on Edgar Allan Poe. Stanard had the reputation of being an expert on the field of Virginia history. Stanard died 6 May 1933 in Richmond.
