Summary
Contains a letter from Governor John Page, Richmond, to [Hugh Holmes], Speaker of the House of Delegates, enclosing a letter from Samuel Coleman, Clerk of the Council, and an account of warrants issued on the Contingent Fund for removing dirt and building a stone wall on Capitol Square between 28 October 1797 and 1 April 1799. According to the Governor, Governor Wood directed the filling up of certain gullies destructive of the Public Square. Coleman writes that he was unable to find a resolution or act in 1796 authorizing the expenditures to fill up the gully between the Capitol and Governor's house. He adds that the work was deemed expedient by Governor Wood and paid through the Contingent Fund. The account of warrants was prepared by Samuel Shepard, Auditor of Public Accounts
