George Cunningham Hannah (1817-1888) was the son of George and Lucy (Morton) Hannah, prominent plantation owners of "Gravel Hill," Charlotte County, Virginia. Hannah married Ann Eliza Spraggins, daughter of John D. Spraggins, on 8 November 1842. The first member of the Hannah family to come to America was George Hannah. He came to Virginia in 1715 and married Jane Thompson. His son, Andrew Hannah (1754-1793), was married to Anne Cunningham. Andrew's son was George Hannah, the first owner of "Gravel Hill." A history of the family can be found in HISTORY OF GRAVEL HILL (1967) by Victor C. Barringer.
