Biographical or historical data
John Sims, son of William Howson Sims (1819-1890) and Sallie Jones (Wilson) Sims (1823-1894) of Halifax County, Virginia, was born in 1853. He attended Virginia Military Institute and graduated after three and a half years of study in 1871. He returned to Halifax County where he worked as a farmer and later served as a magistrate. Sims was accidentally killed while shooting at a dog in Halifax County on 10 April 1909.
