  • Notebook, 1846-1874, of William Beverley Wooldridge (1827-1881) of Chesterfield County, Virginia, consisting of notes for law classes taken at the University of Virginia, 1846-1847; a list of persons owning over 1000 acres in various Virginia counties in 1782, 1783, and 1795; recepients of land patents in Virginia from 1623 to 1635; members of the 1776 Virginia convention; epitaphs from Virginia cemeteries; accounts of horses and horse racing taken from various Virginia newspapers, 1737-1811; notes on the history of Chesterfield County; and other notes taken from various sources concerning Virginia history. Notebook also includes two watercolor and ink sketches of monuments, one signed by Cary W. Butts. There is an index to the horse races is inside the cover and another index which refers to the various other topics is at the front of the volume

Then the volume must be turned upside and turned to the right until page 134 (numbering ends at page 129). These notes, beginning at page 92, are interspersed with law lecture notes which begin at the other end of the book and cover pages 1-44 from that end

Biographical or historical data
William Beverley Wooldridge was born in Chesterfield County, Virginia, in 1827. He attended the University of Virginia in 1846-1848. Wooldridge returned to Chesterfield County and became a planter. When the Civil War began, he became a lieutenant in Company B, 4th Virginia Cavalry. He was promoted to captain 25 April 1862 and to major 4 September 1863. Wounded at Spotsylvania Court House 9 May 1864, Wooldridge had his leg amputated. He was promoted to lieutenant colonel 12 May 1864 and to colonel 1 November 1864. After the war, he returned to Chesterfield County and served as president of the Midlothian Coal Company. Wooldridge died 15 March 1881 and was buried in Maury Cemetery.
