Biographical or historical data
John W. Campbell was born in 1779 in Rockbridge County, Virginia. He moved to Petersburg, Virginia, 1806, and was a bookseller. Campbell served as collector of cusoms for Petersburg. He married Mildred Walker Moore 13 June 1806, and they had at least one child. Their son Charles Campbell (1807-1876) became a writer and historian. John W. Campbell died in Petersburg 26 December 1842.
