Letters, 1865-1873, of Alfred Dickerson Taylor contain correspondence from his mother Emily Andrews Taylor commenting on how much she misses him and hopes to see him soon; as well as family and social news; and other correspondence concerning Taylor family property in Gloucester and King William Counties, and Sciotio County, Ohio; his brother's estate, and other business and personal matters. Papers also include a receipt, 1 November 1850, from William Andrews as guardian of the children of Robert Taylor, deceased, for a land warrant for over 500 acres; and a deed, 29 September 1859 and recorded 23 January 1860, for a lot in West Point, King William County, from Emily Andrews Taylor of Gloucester County to James L. New of King William County

Biographical or historical data
Emily Andrews was the daughter of William Andrews (ca. 1790-1866) of Gloucester County, Virginia. She married Robert Taylor and they had two sons. One son, Robert G. Taylor, attended the College of William and Mary and was a member of Company D, 53rd Virginia Infantry during the Civil War. He was killed 26 August 1862. The other son, Alfred Dickerson Taylor, moved to Raleigh, North Carolina, after the war.
