Biographical or historical data
William Crawford was born in Orange County, Virginia in 1732. Crawford was a surveyor and farmer in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, and friend of George Washington's. He entered the army, obtained the rank of colonel, and fought in the French and Indian and Revolutionary wars. In May 1782, Crawford fought the Sandusky Indians, was captured, and burned at the stake on 11 June 1782.
