Summary
Collection, 1893-1901, of checks, letters, and receipts relating to the "Mad Stone" located in Caroline County, Virginia. The "Mad Stone" was used for medicinal purposes by those who had been bitten by a mad dog. It seems that Maria L. Motley (1837-1908) and J. Reuben Richerson (1839-1898) owned the stone, but possibly rented it to Harrison. Most of the accounts are receipts for money paid by Harrison to either Motley or Richerson. Also included is a statement from the clerk of Caroline County regarding the estate of Reuben B. Richerson (ca. 1812-1882)
