Papers, 1956-1971, of Maude Boulware Motley (1901-1989) of Caroline and Henrico Counties, Virginia, consisting of her diary of a bus tour through the deep south states and Mexico describing the journey, the stops, and the sights seen, as well as photographs, postcards, brochures, programs, menuse, napkins, and other items collected on the trip. Also includes letters written to her while she traveled, a list of addresses of the various stops, and a list of the other members of the tour. Papers also include a program, 17 March 1971, for a PTA tribute honoring Motley held at Varina High School

Biographical or historical data
Maude Boulware Motley was born 19 September 1901 in Caroline County, Virginia. She attended Lee-Maury School, then Virginia Intermont College in Bristol, Virginia. She taught school for four years on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, then attended Westhampton College for two years, graduating in 1927. In the fall of 1927, Motley began teaching U.S. Government at Varina High School in Henrico County, Virginia, until her retirement. Motley died in Caroline County 25 June 1989.
