Biographical or historical data
Thomas Whitworth was born in England on 4 January 1794. He married Eliza Harrison Goodwyn, daughter of Col. Peterson Goodwyn on 10 January 1833. He was sent abroad to bring back money for the U.S. government during the War of 1812 and for this deed was given title of captain. He was a planter, member of Virginia House of Delegates, and writer. He died at "Mayfield", his residence in Dinwiddie County, Virginia, near Petersburg, on 24 June 1874, and is buried in the vault at "Sweeden."
