Letter (3 leaves), 23 May 1864, from Paulina Radford (b. 1840) in Franklin County, Virginia, to her husband Greenville R. Radford (1836-1890) informing him of her extra-marital relationship while he was away at war. In the letter she confesses that she had delivered an illegitimate child, states the name of the child's father, and asks her husband's forgiveness. Also included is the bill of divorce (2 leaves), 6 Feb. 1865, filed by Greenville Radford. The bill further explains the circumstances surrounding the affair and mentions the letter as proof of her infidelity

  • Paulina Brogan Radford (b. 1840) of Franklin and Floyd Counties, Virginia married Greenville R. Radford (1836-1890) on 18 Sept. 1856 in Floyd County, Virginia. She bore three children, two by Greenville Radford and one by William Adkins of Franklin County.
  • Greenville Radford, a farmer from Floyd and Franklin Counties, Virginia, was born 22 June 1836. He married his first wife Paulina Brogan on 18 Sept. 1856 in Floyd County, Virginia. In June 1861, Radford enlisted in Company C of the 57th Virginia Infantry, C.S.A. Captured in April 1865 at Five Forks, Radford eventually took the oath to the United States and was released in June 1865. After his divorce from Paulina Radford, he later married Lydia M. Radford. He died in 1890 in Floyd County.
