William MacFarlane Jones was born 2 December 1868 to Sampson Jones, Jr., and Susanna Day MacFarlane Jones. He was past president of the Virginia Society of the Sons of the American Revolution and an officer in the national society. He served as the director of the Genealogical Bureau of Virginia. Jones married and had at least one child. He died in Richmond, Virginia, 1 July 1951, and was buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
