Biographical or historical data
Henry Randolph (1721-1771) was born and lived in Henrico County, Virginia. He served as a militia captain in 1748. Randolph lived in that part of Henrico County which became Chesterfield County in 1749, and Henry Randolph may have been one of the county's first justices. Randolph married Tabitha Poythress (1725-1805) in 1742, and they had nine children, including John Randolph (1743-1803) who became one of Chesterfield County's leading citizens; William Randolph (b. ca. 1745) who served as a captain during the American Revolution; and Peter Randolph (ca. 1754-1812) who served for a time as the clerk of Nottoway County, Virginia. Their other children were Thomas Randolph (d. ca. 1775), Robert Randolph (b. ca. 1759), Richard Randolph (ca. 1759-1828), Mary Randolph (d. ca. 1805), Elizabeth (Randolph) Sherwin, and Nancy Randolph. Elizabeth married Samuel Sherwin (d. 1786).
