Papers, 1801-1850, of the Christian family of New Kent County, Virginia, consisting of will, dated 2 December 1801 and probated 14 January 1802, of William Christian of New Kent County; will, dated 22 March 1831 and probated 13 June 1831, of Thomas Taylor of James City County, Virginia; deed, 20 August 1839 and recorded 21 May 1840, for tracts of land in Charles City County, Virginia, from Cary Wilkinson and his wife Rebecca Wilkinson to Samuel P. Jordan; letter, 5 December 1844, from President John Tyler (1790-1862) to "Miss Beverly" regarding her brother's commission; and deed of trust, dated 29 July 1850 and recorded 12 December 1850, between William E. Christian of the first part, James Stemper of the second part, and John H. Christian executor of James Clopton of the third part, all of New Kent County. The deed book containing the deed of trust and the will books containing the wills of William Christian and Thomas Taylor are no longer extant. Biographical or historical data
William Christian (d. 1801) of New Kent County, Virginia, had a son, Gideon Christian (d. ca. 1828). Gideon Christian had five children including William E. Christian and John H. Christian. William Edmond Christian (5 December 1819-29 June 1865) married Ann E. Taylor (1830-1862), daughter of Thomas Taylor (d. 1831), 20 February 1850, and they had three children, including Landgon Taylor Christian (1853-1935) who operated the L. T. Christian Funeral Home in Richmond, Virginia. John Henry Christian (1822-1895) married first Martha Milford Clopton (1824-1864) and they had two children. He then married Mary Susan Clopton (1824-1901) and they had one child. The women were twin daughters of James Clopton (1782-ca. 1850).
