Biographical or historical data
Organized in the late 1730's, Tinkling Spring was the second oldest Presbyterian congregation in the Shenandoah Valley. Reverend John Craig became its first pastor and in 1742, construction began on the first meeting house, which was finished around 1745. In 1815, the Waynesboro Society, an informal organization, was created and attached to Tinkling Spring, which came to be known as Tinkling Spring and Waynesboro Church. On 26 April 1846, forty-seven members were transferred to form Waynesboro Presbyterian Church. In 1850, a new church was built under the direction of Reverend Robert Lewis Dabney.
