Summary
Records, 1724-1820, consisting of a Register, 1724-1774, including marriages, births, baptisms, and deaths, and Vestry minutes, 20 March 1815-3 April 1820. The register proper includes few entries prior to 1738 and ends with 1758. The entries after that date were added much later and refer to the Moncure family. For transcriptions of the register proper see, THE REGISTER OF OVERWHARTON PARISH, STAFFORD COUNTY, VIRGINIA, 1723-1758, by George Harrison Sanford King, 1966. The vestry minutes consist of a few items apparently from a lost vestry book. Accession 30113 is the manuscript copy of this volume

Biographical or historical data
Overwharton Parish, created in 1680 or earlier, was first known as the Upper Parish of Stafford County, then as Stafford Parish, and finally around 1702 as Overwharton Parish. Prior to 1730, Overwharton Parish had encompassed a vast area from which the present counties of Prince William, Fairfax, Loudon, and Arlington were carved. With the creation of Prince William County and the establishment of Hamilton Parish, the area of Overwharton Parish was greatly reduced. For more information see, THE REGISTER OF OVERWHARTON PARISH, STAFFORD COUNTY, VIRGINIA, 1723-1758, by George Harrison Sanford King, 1966.
