Summary
Papers, 1890-1947, of Cally Thomas Ryland (1871-1947) of Richmond, Virginia, are arranged in three sections: correspondence, literary manuscripts, and miscellaneous. The letters range from 1906 to 1940 and include correspondence from Douglas S. Freeman, editor of the RICHMOND NEWS LEADER, Alexander Weddell, author, and Mary Stanard, editor of the letters of Edgar Allan Poe. Most of the literary manuscripts are short stories, apparently some in her own handwriting and signed. Several items are her column, "By The Way," and the newspaper copy is attached in two cases. Miscellaneous items of interest include a photograph of Ryland as a child, blotter calendars with dialect sayings by Ryland, and an Academy of Music Program
