Transcript of the will, dated 1 May 1791, of William Tyler (d. 1794) of Caroline County, Virginia. There is a hand-written copy of the will and a letter, 26 January 1954, from Edmonda N. Brokaw concerning it. There is also a typed copy of the will with a biographical note on William Tyler, both by Martha Woodroof Hiden (1883-1959). The will book containing this instrument is no longer extant

Biographical or historical data
William Tyler may have been born about 1710 in Essex County, Virginia, and moved to Caroline County, Virginia by 1750. He was appointed a militia captain in 1759, and served as a justice and sheriff of Caroline County. Tyler had three wives, the third being Elizabeth Keeling, whom he married about 1750. Tyler had nine children. He died in Caroline County in 1794.
