Biographical or historical data
On 3 October 1755, the New Side Synod of New York established Hanover Presbytery. The creation of Orange Presbytery in 1770 diminished Hanover's territory. In 1786, the presbytery was further divided when all its churches west of the Blue Ridge Mountains organized into a new Presbytery under the name Lexington. By 1786, Hanover Presbytery only retained that territory east of the Blue Ridge. In 1829, the presbytery was divided into East Hanover and West Hanover.
