Summary
A recording of the special program recognizing WRVA for its contributions "to let every military man it could reach be assured that we Americans are 100% behind him." WRVA received the special award, presented by Variety Magazine, for its "distinctive merit in a field of war endeavor, for contributions to military-civilian understanding." The program provides an overview of the WRVA broadcast programs from various camps around the state, with samples from several programs, such as "OK America," with hard-working Joe Brown, as emcee, and 20-30 Richmond-Norfolk area entertainers visiting servicemen in their own camps two times a week. Or single episode programs across the state, such as "Open House at Ft. Eustis." Other programs highlighted include a program of "music and drama and stirring patriotism" Thursdays at 8 p.m. from Camp Lee or the huge naval show from Norfolk on Saturday nights at 7 p.m. The second part of the program consists of speeches such as one by Major General James E. Edmonds, Commanding General of Camp Lee, discussing experiences for boys in camp with WRVA and what a great a debt they all owe to the station for helping everyone at Camp Lee deal with their enlistment. Also speaking are Virginia Governor Colgate W. Darden, Jr.; Barron Howard, Business Manager of WRVA; Irving Abeloff, WRVA Program Service Manager; and C.T. Lucy, WRVA General Manager
