Biographical or historical data
The Virginia Educational Media Association (VEMA) was formed in 1975 when the Virginia Association for Educational Communications and Technology (VAECT) and the Virginia Education Association--School Librarian Department (VEA-SLD) merged. VEMA's goal is the "improvement of learning in Virginia through effective and efficient use of instructional media and technology" using both print and non-print media. VEMA's aim is also to promote the profession and continuing education of school librarians. It is organized into seven regions to encourage regional activities as well as state wide functions and programs. VEMA is affiliated with two national organizations, the Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT) and the American Association of School Librarians (AASL). VEMA also has its own affiliates: the Associated School Librarians of Fairfax County, the Associated School Librarians of Prince William County, the Loudoun Educational Media Association, and Managers of Media Organization (MEMO).
