Biographical or historical data
John Kevan Peebles, (1866-1934) and Finley Forbes Ferguson (1875-1936) formed a Nofolk, Virginia-based partnership in 1917. Peebles, a Petersburg, Virginia, native, became a major figure in Virginia architecture in the period 1900-1934. Educated at the University of Virginia, Peebles worked with several architectural firms before becoming the senior designer in Peebles and Ferguson. Findley Forbes Ferguson, a Nofolk native and graduate of Hampton-Sydney College, studied architecture at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He began a practice in Norfolk around 1890. Ferguson also served on the Advisory Committee for the restoration of historic structures in Williamsburg, Virginia. Some notable structures by Peebles and Ferguson include Ohef Sholom Temple, Norfolk (1917), Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church, Richmond, Virginia (1922-1923), and University of Virginia, Thornton Hall (1935).
