Biographical or historical data
Born ca. 1830 in Norfolk, Virginia. Lived in Henrico County, Virginia and worked as a carpenter and house builder. Enlisted on April 21, 1861 as 1st Sergeant of Co. I, 1st Virginia Volunteers. Elected 2nd Lt. on May 2, 1861. In July, the 1st Virginia Volunteer Regiment was transferred to the army of the Confederate States. Tabb was elected Captain of Co. I on September 7, 1861. During the summer of 1862, the efforts of Captain Tabb prevented the 1st Virginia from being consolidated into the 7th Virginia. At the Battle of Second Manassas in August 1862, Capt. Tabb was mortally wounded and died September 3, 1862.
