Biographical or historical data
Thomas Madison was born in October 1746 in Augusta County, Virginia. He moved, with his parents, to Botetourt County, Virginia, when it was formed. Madison became a lawyer and militia officer, and served as state's attorney for the county. Madison represented Botetourt County in the House of Delegates from 1780 to 1782 and 1793 to 1796. He owned land in Botetourt and Wythe Counties, Virginia, and Tennessee and Ohio. A cousin of James Madison (1751-1836), Madison married Susanna Henry, the sister of Patrick Henry (1736-1799), and they had at least six children. Madison died in Botetourt County in February 1798.
