Papers, 1942-1945, of William A. Mahoney, Jr. (1917-1971) of Richmond, Virginia, while he was serving as a medical supply officer at McCloskey General Hospital in Temple, Texas, during World War II. The collection contains correspondence and a scrapbook. The letters were written by Mahoney to his family, and topics include basic training at Fort McClellan, health, weather, mail deliveries, being stationed at McCloskey General Hospital, his office duties, and promotions. He also writes about the relocation of his wife, Mildred Frances (Valentine) Mahoney (1915-2009) to Temple, and their numerous moves to new housing. Some of the letters were written by her. William Andrew Mahoney, Jr. was born in Richmond, Virginia on 30 June 1917. He was the son of William A. Mahoney, Sr. (1885-1971) and his first wife Alma B. Crafton (1883-1926). He was employed by the North American Finance Company in Richmond from 1939 to 1942. During World War II, Mahoney served as a medical supply officer at McCloskey General Hospital in Temple, Texas. He was also stationed at Fort McClellan (Alabama), Fort Lewis (Washington), and the Columbus Army Services Depot (Ohio). Mahoney was also stationed in France at the end of the war. He married Mildred Frances Valentine. William A. Mahoney, Jr. died on 17 August 1971.
