Biographical or historical data
William Galt, Jr. was born in Scotland in 1801. He was orphaned at an early age, and came to the United States in 1817, settling in Richmond, Virginia. Galt married Roxanna Dixon (d. 1828) on 14 September 1825. Following her death he married Mary Bell Taylor (ca. 1809-1892) on 3 February 1830. They moved to Fluvanna County in 1835, and resided at his plantation "Glenarvon." William Galt, Jr. died on 28 January 1851, and is buried in Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond.
