Biographical or historical data
William Ward Boswell was born in Greenwood, Albemarle County, Virginia on 2 November 1905. He attended the Augusta Military Academy, and then was employed by the Lehigh-Portland Cement Company, and then the Virginia Tractor Company as an equipment sales engineer. He was also employed by the Virginia Paving Company. In October 1942, Boswell worked for the War Production Board, and was awarded a commission in the U.S. Army in June 1943. He was sent overseas, served in England, France, and Germany, and took part in the invasion of Normandy in June 1944. Boswell as assigned to the 9th Engineer Command, and his duties included supervising maintenance, repair, and supply of spare parts for engineer heavy construction equipment used in the construction of tactical airfields. William Ward Boswell died in Richmond on 14 May 1977 and is buried in Monticello Memorial Park in Charlottesville, Virginia.
