Biographical or historical data
Kentucky lawyer family, prominent in state and national politics. John Breckindridge (1760-1806) moved from Virginia to Kentucky in 1792 and became state attorney general, member of the Kentucky House of Representatives, speaker of that House, state attorney general, U.S. Senator, and U.S. Attoreny General under Thomas Jefferson. James Breckinridge (1763-1833) of Fincastle, Botetourt County, Virginia, was a lawyer, state legislator and U.S. Congressman.
