  • Includes two volumes of minutes. The first volume covers the period, 6 April 1833 - 22 September 1866; May 1868 - June 1870; and January 1872. This well organized volume begins with the covenant of the church, rules of decorum, and membership lists. The membership lists appear on pages 13-27 and pages 122-131 ("colored members," 1833-1863)
  • The second volume covers the period, 9 October 1880 - 19 July 1884; 4 June 1887 - 9 September 1893; 2 July 1899 - 9 December 1899; 7 September 1901; 7 March 1903 - 12 November 1904; and 8 July 1906. The volume begins with the church covenant and rules of decorum. On the last page is an undated financial plan for the South Brunswick Circuit. The membership lists appear on pages 13-16 and contain dates to 1918

Biographical or historical data
Established in 1804, James Square was the second Baptist church organized in Brunswick County. It became a member of the Concord Baptist Association when the Meherrin Baptist Association was reorganized in 1833. The first minister of James Square Baptist Church was Reverend William Creath.
