Biographical or historical data
Wickham was born in Long Island, N.Y., 1763, and died Jan. 22, 1839; was a suspected British sympathizer during the Revolution; studied law at William and Mary with George Wythe and practiced law in Williamsburg and then in 1790 moved to Richmond, Virginia; 1791, married his cousin, Mary Smith Fanning (d. 1799) and, later, married Elizabeth Selden McClurg; became Aaron Burr's defense counsel, 1807.
