Biographical or historical data
Colonel James Madison (1723-1801) lived in "Montpelier" and was the wealthiest landholder in Orange County, Virginia. He married Eleanor Rose (Nelly) Conway in 1749 and became the father of James Madison (1751-1836), the fourth president of the United States.
