Papers, 1781-1822, of Dr. George Evans of Chesterfield County, Virginia. Includes accounts, bill, bonds, correspondence, land surveys, powers of attorney, promissory notes, and receipts. There are also bills and receipts for purchases and sales of slaves and documents relating to several estates administered by Dr. Evans. Includes information on the estates of James Boyd and Samuel Nevins (d. 1781) of Chesterfield County, Virginia. The estate papers of Samuel Nevins include marriage and birth dates for the Nevins family and their slaves. Also included are letters from his agents regarding his bounty lands in Ohio and letters relating to the debts of George Evans, Jr

Biographical or historical data
George Evans (ca. 1755-1822) of Chesterfield Co., Virginia, served as a surgeon in the Virginia Continental Line and after the war received 6000 acres of bounty lands on the Ohio. His son, George Evans, Jr., served as a Lieutenant of the United States Army, and died in 1816 in Ohio.
