Biographical or historical data
The Mechanicsburg Circuit belonged to the Wytheville and/or the Radford District of the Holston Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, which was formed in 1844 when the Methodist Episcopal Church split into northern and southern churches over the question of slavery. In 1845, the Holston Conference voted to join the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. The Mechanicsburg Circuit covered Bland County, Virginia and included the churches of Byrnes Chapel, Deharts, Holly Brook, Mechanicsburg, Mt. Zion, Pleasant Grove, Salem, Shiloh, and Wesendonck.
