Contains the name, date of death and/or interment, occupation, disease or cause of death, marital status, adult or child, town or county of residence, lot number, and amount paid for the burial plot for people buried in the cemetery. Not every entry contains all the preceding information. Inserted between June 30 and July 1, 1927 are lists of accounts payable for the cemetery for 1876-1887. The volume dated 1844-1936 is arranged chronologically by date of service. The volume dated 1844-1957 is arranged chronologically by date of service and then alphabetically by surname. Lot registers contain name, date of lot purchase, if known, lot ownership changes, date of death or interment, and removal or disinterment notes. The volume dated 1876-1959 is arranged numerically by section and then lot number. The volume dated 1887-1906 is arranged chronologically by date of service and then alphabetically by surname. Interment register contains name, date of death and/or interment, occupation, disease or cause of death, marital status, adult or child, town or county of residence, lot number, and amount paid for the burial plot for people buried in the cemetery. A ROSTER OF CONFEDERATE SOLDIERS BURIED IN STONEWALL CEMETERY (1962) includes soldier's name, state of residence, company and regiment, date of death, and a full surname index at the end of the volume. Biographical or historical data
Mount Hebron Cemetery located in Winchester, Virginia, was dedicated on 24 June 1844. Burials continue to the present day. Many burial dates pre-date the dedication because some graves were reinterred from other Frederick County and Winchester cemeteries. Stonewall Cemetery located within Mount Hebron Cemetery was started by Isaac William Russell while a prisoner of the Union Army in Winchester during the Civil War.
