Biographical or historical data
Located near Swift Creek and originally known as Arrowfield Church, the first building served as a Presbyterian meetinghouse. During the Civil War, it was the site of an engagement between Union and Confederate troops on 9 May 1864. In 1882, J. J. Ivey, of Mechanics Church, and his Methodist congregation took over the abandoned church building. In 1890, a new building was constructed and the church's name became Ivey Memorial Church, in honor of J. J. Ivey, who had recently died.
