- Biographical or historical data
- Born about 1819, James A. Padgett was a farmer in Bedford County, Virginia. He was rejected for military service by Captain Hugh Nelson (1836-1866) of the 28th Virginia Infantry. Padgett and his wife Lucy A. Padgett (b. ca. 1820) had at least eight children, four of whom survived Padgett. Padgett died by 27 April1903, when his will was proved in the Bedford County Court.
